We have a thing for blood orange. There may or may not be an entire Kaya Blooms Pinterest board devoted to vintage blood-orange velvet sofas we can no longer buy. So when we found this color in a dahlia, we were goners.

KA’s Blood Orange is a hard left from master breeder Kristine Albrecht’s famously muted shades. But make no mistake: this is still KA color—complex, shifting and nearly impossible to name. Blood orange slips into coral, raspberry and pink, changing with the bloom and the season.

And the form is impeccable. At just 3½", she’s pure OLÉ!—layer upon layer of petals curling around a deep raspberry center with all the precision of KA’s master craft. En masse, we imagine a flamenco dancer in 1953 tossing armfuls from the stage.

She knows how to work an ensemble. And when it’s her moment, she bloody sings.

Fortunately, she gives you the armfuls. Blood Orange blooms prolifically on long stems and holds beautifully when cut. Her impossible color moves effortlessly from the juicy bouquets of summer into the deeper palettes of autumn.
